Waterton Park Information

Waterton Lakes National Park of Canada is where the majestic Rocky Mountains meet the prairie grasslands. The park is a scenic gem, diverse ecologies meet here in the Southwestern corner of Alberta, Canada. To the South the park borders the Glacier National Park of Montana, USA and together the two parks form the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park. A world first symbolizing the friendship shared between Canada and the United States. In 1995 the park was made a UNESCO World Heritage site, deemed so because of the cultural importance of its International Peace Park designation, and its unique climate and setting.

The Park encompasses 52,525 hectares and has altitude ranges from 1,280m to 2,939m. There are no active glaciers in the park but the landforms were created by glacial erosion.
